Environmental
Sellafield Ltd is responsible for safely delivering multi-million pound contracts on behalf of site owners the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority. We are involved in reprocessing, MOX fuel manufacture and waste management, together with remediation, decommissioning and clean-up of the site, with the focus on enabling a safe environment now and for future generations.

The roles involve many different activities ranging from environmental assessments, advising operations and identifying and implementing environmental improvements. The aim of the work being to deliver the Life Time Plan of the Site, which has little impact on the environment as possible.
Strong influencing skills are essential. A key part of the role will be to drive your recommendations through the committee process and ensure your identified improvements are implemented. It’s also essential that you have either a relevant degree or significant relevant experience, along with a good understanding of Environmental Regulations.
Ventilation Support Engineer
This team provides the key skill resource for the checking of airflows, air balancing, commissioning and stack emission monitoring to ensure the continued safe operation of conventional and nuclear containment ventilation systems.
Development of the individuals in the support team is key activity, from essential safety training through to professional development. We currently have opportunities to study on site for a foundation degree in building services in conjunction with the University of Central Lancashire. From here, development all the way to chartered status is a real possibility depending on the aspirations of the individual.
If you have experience of ventilation systems, especially proportional air balancing and would like to develop to meet a new challenge, then this could be the ideal long term career move for you.
Duties:
- To support the senior ventilation engineer/Site Maintenance Authority delivering ventilation inspections to ensure containment or other safety function of plant is maintained and deliver written reports.
- Provision of specialist ventilation technical support to all buildings on the Sellafield site
- Provide training to ventilation engineering trainees
- Commissioning and balancing of new/modified ventilation systems
- Air flow measurement.
Essential Skills/Qualifications:
- Experience of Ventilation systems
- Production of written reports using standard IT packages
- Ability to measure flows to CIBSE standards
- Proportional air balancing to CIBSE standards
- ONC or equivalent in engineering subject or equivalent practical experience.
